Municipality of Talibon, Bohol, Philippines

Talibon is a once timid coastal town in the north of the province of Bohol, Philippines, opposite the big city on the east-west. Accordingly, there was no record of how the name came but based on Jesuit Missionaries Records of Travel, the word "Talibong", which means an ancient spear used by folks to mine gold,  was used to refer to the town even before the first missionaries arrived, and as time goes by, the letter g was dropped.

As told by historians, the original Talibongnon was traced back to the time of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 when the Spanish sailed away from Lapu Lapu tirade and disembark from the ship Trinidad and mingled with the natives. Christianity develops in the place and they dedicate it to the "Santisima Trinidad" in honor of their ship. Talibon was then referred to by missionaries priests as Trinidad Christians of Talibon. In 1830, Talibon was established separating from Inabanga as its progress was more than enough to stand on its own.  The following year, Talibon become a parish dedicated to the Holy Trinity. In 1986, the parish become a Diocese of Talibon comprising half of the civil province of Bohol.

TALIBON TODAY is TALIBOOM!

Talibon is now the new sensation in the north. A 1st income municipality hailed as the fastest-growing town and is home to the only mall in the province outside of the capital of Bohol. Over the decades, the industries in Talibon has evolved from major farming and fishing to diversified source of income as more businesses are opening here, including national brands such as Jollibee, Penshoppe, banks, etc. And to match up with the accelerated boom, The government is building various infrastructures and upgrading community facilities and places. Highways are being widened and more roads are opened especially farm-to-market access roads.

The opening of the Alturas Mall in Talibon, Bohol has contributed to a big push for the fast-growing developments in Talibon. Residents from neighboring towns are also coming to town making Talibon a much livelier town which magnets more and more investments from national brands and the Talibongnon themselves. Though, even without the mall, the vast agricultural and sea products of Talibongnon are a major contributor to its fast-growing developments that make it the no.1 1st class income municipality despite its distance away from the capital. In fact, Talibon is a consistent recipient of the "Outstanding Municipality Award" for rice achievers on the national level of the Department of Agriculture. The eighth president of the Republic of the  Philippines Carlos Polistico Garcia famously known for its "Filipino First " and "anti-communism" policy that earned him the title of the champion of economic independence.  PCPG is the first president that signed the bill into law outlawing the communist party of the Philippines. Although the bill was amended, superseded until finally repealed after the EDSA revolt.

At the age of 75, he ran and won as a delegate to the 1971 Constitutional Convention to lead the framing of our new Constitution. He won over another former president, Diosdado Macapagal, and was elected as the Convention President on June 11, 1971, but he was overtaken by sudden sickness and died three days later.

Not so famous, but Talibon actually has a lot of interesting places or some things to surprise tourists which is of equal or even far more fun than those frequently visited in the other part of Bohol. One of these is the "Bongang Sand Bar", although officially part of Talibon islands, many tourist island hoppers from Lapu-Lapu and Cordova are visiting this sand bar or including this island as one of their major stop-overs.
